The SHIN protocol by Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum

Dr Jacob Teitelbaum tackles ME/CFS/CFIDS and Fibromyalgia by treating disordered sleep, subclinical hormonal deficiencies, immunologic changes and nutrition simultaneously. The acronym SHIN stands for Sleep, Hormonal support, Infections and Nutritional Support.

This approach has been tested in a double-blind placebo controlled study that was published in The Journal of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, (Vol. 8(2) 2001). The study concluded that significantly greater benefits were seen in the group that received the treatments than in the group that received a placebo. They claim that, "Using an integrated treatment approach, effective treatment is now available for FMS/CFS." You can read the full report here.

Dr Teitelbaum has also studied the use of D-Ribose in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia.

His website offers a free online computer program to analyse CFS/FMS symptoms and a book that details the SHIN Protocol
