The great knitting lesson - at 'meet the MC' day

I am learning to knit.

I am pretty hopeless. Or I *was* Smiling

Dan, our secretary, is a dab hand with the old knitting sticks and in the middle of discussing some options for the upcoming months, we had a quick knitting lesson.

It turns out i'd been knurling, or pnitting. It wasn't knit, and it wasn't purl *lol* I created a monster!

So dan helped me out, and then *gasp* ruined my knurl/pnitted masterpiece by yanking it off the needles.

He made me start afresh with actual real knitting Smiling It was very embarrassing trying to get my stitches right with everyone watching on. Karina was watching me for a while and in the end it seemed like she couldn't take it anymore Laughing out loud She came over and showed me how to hold my needle, instructing me to own the needle, and not let it own me Laughing out loud

I finished that practice piece on the way home in the train, and when I arrived home, I was so inspired, I started a new piece... a real live scarf!

I'm sure anyone who was there for my impromptu lesson can vouch for how much I have improved *lol*

Yes, I must say that looks very good, and quite a bit better than what you started out with!! Laughing out loud
I'll have to find my knitting needles and give it a go again....and if I fail, well I'll just have to get Dan to help me!! Sticking out tongue
That looks very nice wool too....what kind is it?

Its called "opera" by Moda Vera. They have it at Spotlight for about $3 a ball. It is quite thick, larger than a standard size ball. It looks to be about 12 ply (at a guess)

I cast off today Smiling WITHOUT instructions. Somehow I remembered Smiling

The end is about 1" less wide than the beginning *lol* But it still looks snazzy!

Photos to come shortly. Smiling

Yay!! Glad you were able to cast off without instructions!!

I found my knitting needles, which already had some knitting on, which I continued, and then learnt casting off from a website. My piece is actually an inch or 2 wider at the end than the beginning!! *oops*

But I've now started with some Flutter wool from Lincraft (feathery type) a bargain at 62 cents a ball!!!
I'm planning on a scarf.....if I get there I'll try and get a pic up on here!

Well since I haven't yet gotten the gprs thingy on my camera phone working, I can't send photos through from it.
And even though I was at my dad's place last week, I don't know if he even had his digital camera there, and I was too busy cleaning up after him and being his slave!! (my dad had a small operation on his knee, and so he needed me to stay there to do things for him)
But I promise that I will try to get piccies of my scarf on here soon!!!
And today I discovered that lincraft has more feathery wool at 78c a ball!!! Really nice colours too, it's Sullivan's brand.
I really like the scarf you've knitted too!! Smiling
