CoEnzyme Q10

I have been taking CoEnzyme Q10 tablets for about a month now, and I'm thinking at this point that they might just be helping with my stamina a little bit.

I'm not really sure though, as it's kinda co-incided with this (mostly) nice spring weather we've been having. I might stop taking them for a week or two to see if it's the tablets making me feel a bit less ragged some days, or if it's the mild weather or just a random unexplained period of relative 'awakeness'!

I've really held off trying new supplements for a while now (I've just stuck with my regular assortment of vitamins and minerals and homeopathy that I've been happy enough with for a while) cos of money and also cos there are just so many products that claim to be good for cfs that it's confusing... but in my last visit to the health food store, this supplement really stuck out from the other 45 formulas, vitamins and herbs that the lady showed me. She said that it plays an important role in the production of energy on a cellular level and is a powerful antioxident. I thought I'd give it a try as I had read about CFS being linked to cell damage or a virus hiding within the cells.

Has anyone else tried CoQ10 or had any luck with it?

Hi, I don't know muchabout

Hi,

I don't know muchabout CoQ10 other than Dr. Atkins recommended it in his book as one of the supplements to help with what the lady in the health food store said, that it helps the body convert food etc into energy on a cellular level.

I read about it before I realised I had ME/CFS. Now, after reading about it in a few other places, some seem to have succes, others don't. I was thinking about trying this one, and a few others, just waiting for uni to finish and work to start, for finances.

Let us know how it goes?

Hi, I have a new book called

Hi,

I have a new book called "From Fatigued to Fantastic", which recommends four supplements for Fibro and/or CFS (i think in order of priority), they are

D-Ribose
the authors own "Energy revitalization system" powder, or a multivitamin with lots of B-vitamins in it
Acetyl-L-carnitine
Coenzyme Q10

I havent tried any of these before (apart from multivitamins), and had never heard of the first or third of them. I ordered the first three on the internet the other day, thinking i would also get some CoQ10 locally when i get around to it, and then i noticed this thread.... so i will post if i notice any difference from them

Coenzyme Q10

Hey everyone;
I got CFS in 2001 and in 2002, I did the merry go round of vitamins and supplements including Coenzyme Q10. I was on it for about 4 months and it did nothing at all. I maintain that if CFS is due to a faulty gene responding to a virus (i.e. glandular fever etc), no amount of supplements will assist your energy levels if you are taking care of yourself and there is nothing physically wrong with the energy levels to begin with (i.e. if you treat yourself like crap and don't take time to rest, there will be a problem with your energy levels. It's amazing how so many people have to do a detox after the party season due to too much alcohol, unhealthy food and not enough rest).

However, as a university student and private tutor working about 12 hours a week, my brain needs to be sharp. I found a supplement by Bioglan called 'Focus' (it is in a blue and white box) is quite good. It simply helps get more blood flow to the brain to help with concentration, memory, mental alertness etc. That got me through 2002 - 2004 at university and although I was still at uni until 2007, I didn't need it. I did have to take it this year for a few months due to a severe relapse but I'm back off it now. I now take Inner Health Plus, Metamucil for CFS related issues plus Evening Primrose Oil for something else and that's it! Let me ask everyone this, would you feel better taking pills which are unlikely to help and see your bank balance dwindle or save your money and splash out on some new clothes and swimmers. I just did the second one on the weekend, knowing full well I could pay for the things and still have money left in the bank. Anyway, I thought I'd throw in my two cents here.

CoQ10

Ahhh I love it when my nutrition books come in handy! Minus all the techinical mumbo jumbo it basically says CoQ10 is an antioxidant, it lowers blood pressure, improves energetics of immune cellular system (it doesnt go into any detail about how), increases IgG levels in response to infection (IgG is an immune protein), prevents cellular depletion of ATP (atp is what the body uses for energy, actually now i think about i guess thats how it improves energy in immune cells! duh), normalises cancer cells (interesting!), it says 'improves cardiac bioenergetics' i assume that just means improves energy of the heart, spares vitamin E, stabilises myocardial calcium ion channels (thats what makes the muscles of the heart contract and expand) and strengthens the heart, it also says something about thinning the blood too.

its has listed as side effects: diarrhoea, dizziness, nausea.
although id have to add heart palpitations to that coz thats what happened when i tried it, and ive known a few people who have said the same thing, which makes sense if its involved in heart contraction. but i know you can get it at different strengths so maybe it only does that if its too high of a dose. but its also pretty expensive so thats a bit of a downer Sad

anyway i know that was a gobful but i hope it helped!
