Sound Therapy

Hi guys,

It doesn't seem like many people browse these forums but I don't give up easily...so I shall keep posting for the time being Smiling

I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about Sound Therapy or has tried anything?

I understand it is not a cure but I am interested in anything that can help relieve my symptoms through relaxation etc

I am a music lover so thought I might find this more therapeutic than other relaxation techniques.

The only thing I came across was a CD set which was way too $$$$ for me.

Anyway, interested to hear your thoughts.

Best wishes,

Marina x

sound therapy

Hi Marina,
Don't give up on the forum as I for one check it most days.....I looked for quite some time before I decided to sign up....I find the posts are always interesting , often thought provoking and most important of all remind us that we are not alone.......as for your query regarding Sound Therapy ..... I have a little sound box (as I call it) that I listen too at bedtime I find that it helps me to go to sleep ( I chose the sound of the waves chasing on the shore) ... I am not sure if this is exactly what you are asking about but it is something that I find helps me.....so maybe something similar will help you....unfortunally mine is from avon and I don't think that are still available......
Take care.....Diane

sound therapy

The only thing that I remember about sound therapy (which I personally haven't tried as a treatment for CFS or for relaxation) is that you have to listen to very specific music that has the right frequencies (I don't remember what those frequencies were, or any more details). From memory, Mozart was particularly recommended to listen to. I also remember that the quality of the headphones were supposed to be really important to the result. But perhaps the sound therapy you are talking of is different?
I certainly enjoy listening to music as a way to relax, but I prefer listening to whatever music I feel like rather than a specific piece of music (then it just feels like hard work).
Perhaps you could tell us a bit more about the sound therapy that you are looking into? If you do end up trying it, I'd be interested to hear how you find it.

Amy

hi

Thanks guys. Don't worry I won't leave! I was just being impatient Sticking out tongue

I think this forum is really important.

In terms of sound therapy I was referring to what you have mentioned Amy about special frequencies. As most music is quite emotive they believe that only certain music with certain frequencies can be truly "relaxing". I have found that while listening to my chosen music it can bring out certain emotions or evoke memories which can be both positive and negative. I find it very hard to get to a state of complete rest and I thought that sound therapy might be nice to try. They do sell special kits with this music but it is very expensive. I think I came across it here:

Anyway, I'll do some research eventually...!

BBC Music and healing

Hi Marina,

This is a link to an episode in a series from the BBC on the power of music:

It was also broadcast on ABC on All in the Mind in 2005

Stewart.

Thanks for that Stewart.

Thanks for that Stewart. Will check them out now Smiling

Sound Therapy

Hi Marina - Here in the UK I attended a 'pilot' scheme for ME sufferers organised by our National Health Service. Relaxation techniques were discussed at some length, including Sound Therapy. Personally, it never worked for me but I'm very much of the opinion that each individuals needs are/can be different and so remain open-minded about these things.
A couple of our pilot group used CDs of Whales and Dolphins 'communicating' and found them very therapeutic and a great aid to relaxation.

Holosync

I tried a meditation cd called holosync, that a friend lent me, it was at least a couple of hundred dollars. It was okay but I didnt notice a huge improvement, I wouldnt have paid hundreds of dollars for it, but if it was in a music shop for $30 it would be worth it. I have a cd called "healing" by anugama which according to the jacket has similar properties, it stimulates slower brain waves (like alpha and delta waves) by the same method, i like the angama one better than the holosync although the holosync has a lot more spiel about how the frequencies slow down your mind and how much effort they have gone into putting them on to the cd. you need to use stereo headphones and cant convert to mp3 format since that affects the special signals that are embedded

Crystal Sound Therapy

Out of general interest I was going to try Crystal Sound Therapy a couple of years ago and forgot all about it... not sure if it's the kind of thing you are thinking of. There's a place in NSW that does courses/workshops/retreats:
