Weary traveller :(

Bleh, today was dreadful!

I rolled out of bed at 9 with the OH saying "you should get up now or you'll miss your train" Ahhh! I made it with a bit of time to spare. Quickest shower in history, i'm not even sure I got wet.

Went to the office to work on the computers and met up with Dan. We got a lot done and both left the office at about 5ish.

And thats when it started. We got on a train and headed home, he needed to get off in the city, so I walked up to the door with him as my stop was next.
I got buffetted around a bit thetre, but made it to my stop.

walked down the ramp of platform 6 only to find my connecting train comes in on platform 6.

back up the ramp.

"attention passengers on platform number 6. due to mechanical problems your train is delayed by 20 minutes"

That ended up being 30 minutes.

Tthen they cancelled it.

It was the only train heading west so there were oodles of people waiting. They announced some limited stops on platform 3 and finally mine was among them.

Down the ramp again.

up the ramp for platform 3.

Now, the sardine analogy, I never really understood it until today. The train pulled up and there were people everywhere, and even some faces pushed against the glass.

the doors opened.

2 people got out and someone from the back of the pile coughed nervously.

The entire platform 6 flock moved as one and attempted to jam onto this train. people ecventually had to stop when it was apparent that there was no more floorspace anywhere in the carriages. People were flopping out of doors!
Eventually I gave up and sat down, the guard blew the whistle and the train crawled off.

The next train came 5 minutes later, even more limited stops and even less space. I inserted myself in a foyer area. In the centre. nothing to hold onto, fantastic after you are already stuffed Sad I grabbed past a bloke and held the rail. The man next to me was holding the ceiling.

for some reason we stopped at the next station. Transit police were popping everyone inside carriages and trying to keep the platform people calm. I'm not sure why it stopped there, i think because the suburban sardine train had just come through and taken its time about it, as within 2 stations we were reduced to plodding along behind it.

Its not that easy to stand up and hold a bag on a wibbly wobbly train :(I lost my knees a few times but thankfully didn't land in anyones lap. Smiling

I eventually made it home, more than 2.5 hours after I left the office Sad

I am officially plum tuckered out.

Weary traveller :(

I definitely know what you mean!!
That's why I avoid travelling from the city at that time if I can.....because otherwise I end up waiting for ages for a train that isn't jam-packed, and I'll still usually end up on a train trying to stand up and not fall over!!! Sad
Luckily I left the city around 4pm yesterday, so my train wasn't packed, I got to have a seat all to myself the whole way!!!
Hope you got some good rest today!! Eye-wink

Weary traveller :(

eek... hope you recovered ok Puzzled

This is the reason I avoid public transport if at all possible. It's just not feasible given my current degree of illness.

Public trasnport is one of the times I wish CFS wasn't invisble. I'd love to have a giant plaster cast or something growing out of my head so people will actually move aside and let me sit down rather than stand.

Weary traveller :(

Helen, my thoughts exactly!!!
CFS being invisible really sucks when it comes to needing a seat on a train, or bus, or using the lift and all those other kinds of things!!!

Weary traveller :(

Ohhh! the amount of times I get filthy looks from people for taking one of the disabled seats on the bus! I make sure I take the one furthest from the door too!

AND what makes it worse is that if you do stand up for someone who looks ill or elderly, you get the filthiest looks for even suggesting they aren't capable.

If anyone stands up for me, I make sure to smile and thank them.

I dont like trains either. When my illness is bad, staying awake on the train, cause of my exhaustion was hard. I remember once waking up to find myself at the end of the train route.. having completely missed my stop and very upset as the only place I wanted to be was in bed.
